Cotton & Laby Buildings - VUW

The Cotton & Laby Buildings are a multi-stage academic building complex at Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) on Kelburn Campus. The buildings are the home of the School of Engineering and Computer Science at the University. These buildings were initially built starting in the 1970s, so this project was a reroof as opposed to a new construction project. There were several other contributors to the project, including the Height Safety Systems (designed, supplied, and installed) by Monkeytoe Group (formerly Alta Safety), and RoofLogic's Ultratherm Xtreme FiberTite Recover insulated roofing system.

As the chosen Height Safety partners for this project, Monkeytoe Group (formerly Alta Safety) designed, supplied, and installed a full pass-through design, meaning no disconnection is needed when travelling along the system. Our recommended custom system included a RoofSafe™ Cable fall arrest system, consisting of 316-grade stainless steel brackets and wire/cable attached using the RoofSafe™ Cable surface-mounted base plate. We also used roof anchors throughout our design, ensuring there were no blind spots, and designed safe access to the rooftops via permanent ladders while installing various ladder brackets throughout the site, allowing users to safely use our portable ladders to access the roof in several ways.
